NEW DELHI: TikTok may have another major cause for concern in India, after experiencing a steep drop in ratings. A rival app called Mitron, launched in April 2020, has surpassed 50 million downloads and is one of the top 10 most popular apps in the country right now on the Google Play Store. The Mytron app has been created by IIT-Roorkee alumnus Shivank Aggarwal and his team from Bengaluru. Available free on Android, the app is a small video and social platform similar to Tiktok. Users can create, edit, and share videos as well as browse through videos in countries. The application is self-funded and currently available only on Android.

The Mitron app has received an overall rating of 4.7 from a rating given by over 2.3 lakh users. The interface of the app is also similar to TikTok. "Our mission at Mitron is to create a platform where people can come and entertain themselves with short videos posted by people around the world, as well as a social incentive for people to share and create their own videos Create, "the app describes on Google Play.

Given the anti-tick-to-spirit sentiment moving around in India, the Matron team might have a better time. Users across India have called for a ban on TicketLock and reduced it from 4.6 stars on Google Play to 2 stars. While Google has removed the marks of negative reviews helping TikTok to advance its ratings in India, calls made in the TikTok option in India seem to work in Mitron's favor. For TikTok, India provides the largest user base outside China.
